Troubleshooting Computer Power Actions

Power Action Errors When Starting, Stopping, or Rebooting a Computer

This article explains why certain errors may appear when attempting to Power On, Power Off, or Reboot a computer from the Softnet dashboard or the Softdrive Launcher.

Index

Overview

When performing power actions such as Power On, Power Off, or Reboot from the Softnet dashboard or the Softdrive Launcher, you may encounter an error message indicating that the operation failed.

In most cases, this occurs because the system is already in the state you are attempting to change to, or the action has already been initiated and is still processing.

Error Messages

ActionError Message
Power OnOperation failed because machine is already up.
RebootOperation failed because machine is already restarting.
Power OffOperation failed because machine is already off.

Common Causes

These errors typically occur in the following situations:

  • The computer is already in the requested power state.
  • The same action was triggered multiple times.
  • The system is currently processing a previous power request.
  • The Softnet dashboard has not yet refreshed to reflect the latest state.

Because Softnet prevents duplicate or unnecessary state changes, the system returns an error if the requested action has already been completed or is currently in progress.

Troubleshooting

In most cases, no action is required. The system is already performing the requested operation.

Follow these steps if you encounter this message:

  1. Wait a few moments for the power action to complete.
  2. Refresh the Softnet dashboard.
  3. Verify the computer’s current Power State.
  4. If the computer is not in the desired state after a few minutes, attempt the action again.

Tip: Avoid clicking the same power action multiple times. Repeated requests can trigger duplicate operations and return these messages even when the system is functioning correctly.

Support

If the computer remains stuck in an incorrect state or the action does not complete after several minutes, please open a support request.

Please include:

  • The Computer ID
  • The action attempted (Power On, Power Off, or Reboot)
  • A screenshot of the computer status in the Softnet dashboard
