Overview
Error Code 01 (TLSHandshakeFailed) indicates that the Softdrive client was able to initiate a connection to the remote computer, but the TLS handshake required to secure the connection failed.
This means basic network connectivity exists, but the encryption negotiation between the client and the Softdrive services could not be completed.
This error is most commonly caused by network security mechanisms inspecting, blocking, or interfering with encrypted TLS traffic.
Common Causes
Error Code 01 (TLSHandshakeFailed) is usually triggered by one or more of the following:
SSL inspection or TLS decryption enabled on firewalls or security gateways
Network security software (firewalls, proxies, EDR, VPNs) interfering with TLS traffic
Corporate or restricted networks enforcing strict encryption policies
Outbound TLS traffic being filtered or modified
This issue is not typically caused by the Softdrive client or the virtual machine itself.
Troubleshooting
Things to do when this happens:
Contact your network administrator
If you are on a corporate or managed network, share this error with your network or security team. TLS inspection or SSL filtering must be disabled or bypassed for Softdrive traffic.Disable SSL inspection for testing
If possible, temporarily disable SSL/TLS inspection or proxying and retry the connection.Try a different network
Test the connection from another network (home network, mobile hotspot) to confirm whether the issue is network-related.Restart both devices
Restart the local device and the remote Cloud PC, then retry the connection.
If you suddenly started experiencing this issue on a network where Softdrive previously worked, please try using the Troubleshoot option available in the Softdrive dashboard.
If the issue persists after testing on a different network, please contact Softdrive Support.
When opening a support ticket, include as much detail as possible:
Exact error code shown (Error Code 01 – TLSHandshakeFailed)
Timestamp of when the error occurred
Network type (corporate, home, VPN, hotspot)
Screenshots of the error message
Any recent network or security changes
