Error Code 13 - ServerRestart

Overview

 Error Code 13 (ServerRestart) indicates that the Softdrive server component on the remote computer is currently restarting. 

 This occurs when SoftdriveServer.exe is restarting as part of normal operation, maintenance, or recovery processes. During this time, new connections cannot be accepted. 

 This behavior is expected and typically resolves automatically once the restart completes. 

Applies To

  • Softdrive Virtual Machines
  • Softstream Client
  • Users attempting to connect during server restart

Symptoms

  • Unable to connect to the Softdrive session
  • Error Code 13 (ServerRestart) displayed
  • Connection attempts fail temporarily

Possible Causes

  • SoftdriveServer.exe restarting on the remote PC
  • Remote PC reboot or system update in progress
  • Automatic service recovery or restart
  • Administrative action performed on the machine

 This condition is expected during system restarts and does not indicate a failure. 

Resolution

  •  Wait a few minutes and try reconnecting 
  •  Allow the server process to complete its restart before attempting to reconnect 
  •  Avoid repeated rapid connection attempts during this time 

Validation / Expected Result

 Once the server restart completes, the Softdrive session becomes available and connections succeed normally. 

Troubleshooting Notes

  • Short interruptions are expected during system restarts
  • If this occurs during scheduled maintenance or updates, no action is required
  • Persistent or repeated occurrences may indicate underlying system or stability issues

  •  Error code: Error Code 13 – ServerRestart 
  •  Date and time of occurrence 
  •  Network type (home, corporate, VPN, hotspot) 
  •  Screenshot of the error message 
  •  Description of any network issues observed
