New Features
Softnet: VM Screenshots
Administrators, organization owners, and computer owners can now capture a live screenshot of any virtual machine directly from the computer details page in the Softdrive portal. Screenshots work for both Windows and Linux VMs. More granular per-role screenshot permissions are planned for a future update.
Softnet: VM Resource Statistics
Administrators can now view real-time CPU and memory usage for virtual machines directly in the Softdrive portal, including an interactive historical usage graph on the computer details page. This makes it easier to monitor VM health and spot resource bottlenecks without leaving the portal.
Softnet: Softstream Version Locking
Organizations can now be locked to a specific version of the Softstream client, giving IT administrators control over when client updates roll out to their fleet. Version locking now covers additional installer platforms, including the shared client installer type, broadening support across different deployment configurations, and the Softstream server itself can now be automatically upgraded or downgraded to match the locked version. This option becomes visible in the portal once an organization's first Softstream version is registered. Version locking is currently available for Windows client and server only; support for other platforms is planned.
Softnet: Expanded Role Permissions
Role configuration dialogs now include group-related permissions, and administrators can assign granular permissions for viewing all activity logs and computer session logs. This gives organizations more precise control over who can see what in the Softdrive portal.
Softnet: Faster Organization Switching
Switching between organizations in the Softdrive portal now skips the login step when an active session for that organization already exists, reducing friction for users who manage multiple organizations.
Softnet: Global Activity Log
A new centralized activity log page gives administrators a single view of events across all computers and users in their organization. The log supports server-side date filtering and includes a dedicated failed actions view, making it faster to identify and investigate issues without searching through unrelated activity.
Softstream: Change VM Resolution from the Client Menu
Windows client users can now change their VM's screen resolution directly from the Softstream overlay menu, choosing from a standard list of preset resolutions. This brings the Windows client to parity with the macOS client's existing resolution controls.
Softnet: Template Application Metadata
Administrators managing templates that host a single application (for example, a VM running a Docker-based app) can now store the application's name and port as part of the template. Only super admins can set or upload this data, keeping application template configuration secure.
Softnet: Disable Right-Click Setting
Organizations can now enable or disable right-click within sessions from the organization settings page. Right-click remains enabled by default, giving administrators an easy way to restrict this behavior if needed.
Softstream: Okta Single Sign-On for the Launcher
Users can now sign in to the Softstream Launcher with Okta SSO, in addition to the existing Microsoft SSO option. Availability is controlled by the organization's settings, giving administrators control over which sign-in options are shown to their users.
Enhancements
Softnet: Fleet Template Change Safeguards
Changing a fleet's template now shows administrators an impact warning and prompts for confirmation before unscheduled changes are applied. Template updates are also automatically pushed to each computer in the fleet when the fleet template changes, keeping all machines in sync without manual follow-up.
Softnet: Host Capacity Visibility (OCI Platform)
Administrators on the OCI platform can now see available GPU and memory capacity on the host details page, alongside the virtual machines running on that host. This makes it easier to understand the physical resources backing your VMs and plan capacity accordingly.
Softstream: Clearer Shared Settings Indicator
The Advanced Quality Settings list in the Windows client overlay now clearly labels which settings are shared team-wide versus specific to the individual user, making it easier to understand where a given setting is coming from.
Softnet: Enhanced Template Details
Template lists and previews now show the full template name (even when it would otherwise be truncated), when the template was created, and where it came from — including a link back to the source VM when a template was created via "save as template." This makes templates easier to identify and manage at a glance.
Softstream: Enhanced Session Log Downloads
Session log downloads from the client now include additional diagnostic detail — including client and server analytics logs — giving Softdrive support more information to help diagnose and resolve issues faster.
Bug Fixes
Softnet: Screenshot Status on Non-Owned Computers
Resolved an issue where computers not owned by the current user displayed a "Power on to get a screenshot" placeholder even when the VM was already running and healthy. The correct live screenshot is now shown.
Softnet: Activity Log Entry Accuracy
Fixed an issue where the session-created event in the activity log was recording an incorrect ID, which could cause discrepancies when auditing session history.
Softstream: Multi-Monitor App Movement on IGEL
Resolved an issue on IGEL devices where applications moved to a monitor positioned below another monitor could not be moved back up — they would instead attach to window corners. App windows can now be freely moved between monitors in any layout configuration.
Softstream: Session Loading Screen Alignment on IGEL
Fixed an issue where the "Connecting to your computer" loading screen appeared in the upper-left corner of the display on IGEL devices instead of centered, inconsistent with the Windows and macOS experience.
Softstream: Volume Control on IGEL
Fixed an issue where adjusting audio volume from within a Softdrive session on IGEL had no effect on the actual output volume. Users previously had to minimize Softdrive and adjust volume through IGEL's own audio controls. Volume changes made inside a session now apply immediately.
Softstream: Drag-and-Drop File Transfer on Linux
Resolved issues with dragging files from your local machine into a Softdrive session on the Linux client. Previously, files could fail to transfer entirely, or were always placed on the desktop instead of the folder you intended. Drag-and-drop now works reliably on Linux and files land in the folder you drop them into, matching the Windows experience.
Softstream: Cursor Alignment in Windowed Mode on IGEL
Resolved an issue on IGEL devices where the cursor could drift out of alignment after maximizing a windowed session, causing clicks and selections to land in the wrong spot. Cursor position is now mapped correctly when moving between windowed and maximized views.
Softnet: Microsoft SSO Error Visibility
Fixed an issue where Microsoft SSO login errors were not displayed when SSO was disabled for an organization. Administrators can now see the relevant error message and take steps to resolve it.
Softnet: SSO Account Activation Enforcement
Fixed an issue where users authenticating via SSO could access the portal before completing account activation, leaving their accounts in an incomplete state. Users are now correctly required to activate their accounts before gaining access.
Softnet: Portal Session Stability on Refresh
Fixed an issue where refreshing the Softdrive portal could unexpectedly log users out even when their session was still valid. Refreshing the page now reliably maintains the current session.
Softnet: Organization Creation Without Phone Number
Fixed an issue in the onboarding flow where creating an organization failed if a phone number was not provided, even though the field is not required. Organizations can now be created without entering a phone number.
Softnet: Group Membership and Usage Visibility
Fixed two related issues where an administrator viewing a user's profile could not see that user's group memberships, and where a group's detail page did not show where the group was currently being used. Both views now accurately display group relationships, giving administrators clearer insight into access configuration.
Softnet: Role Deletion Safeguards
Fixed an issue where roles could be deleted directly from a user's page, including shared roles that affect multiple users. Role deletion is no longer available from the user page, and super-admins are additionally prevented from deleting shared roles, protecting shared access configurations from accidental removal.
Softnet: Computer Reassignment Audit Trail
Fixed an issue where computer reassignment events in the activity log did not record the previous owner or the new assignee. Reassignment log entries now include both users, giving administrators a complete record of ownership changes.
Softnet: Windows Autopilot Export for Intune
Fixed an issue where the Autopilot CSV export for computers used an incorrect column order, causing imports into Microsoft Intune to fail. The export now uses the correct column format, allowing Intune imports to complete without manual data reformatting.
Softstream: Linux Client Connection Reliability
Resolved an issue where the Linux client could fail to connect and disconnect immediately after launch on certain Ubuntu configurations. Connections to Softdrive desktops now launch reliably without requiring workarounds.
Softstream: Webcam Startup and Fallback Reliability
Fixed intermittent issues where a forwarded webcam would fail to initialize when a session started. The client now also automatically falls back to another available webcam if the one you were using is disconnected — for example, when undocking a laptop — instead of leaving the camera unusable.
Softstream: Webcam Crashes and Connection Issues with Certain Cameras
Fixed a crash that could occur when using certain webcams (such as Microsoft LifeCam Studio) during a session, and resolved intermittent connection failures when opening the Windows Camera app over a forwarded webcam.
Softstream: Microphone Audio Interruptions During Webcam Use
Fixed an issue where toggling a webcam on or off mid-session — for example, in Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams — could cause microphone audio to become jumbled or stop working.
Softstream: Multi-Monitor Display Issues
Fixed several multi-monitor issues, including a 3-monitor setup failing to correctly extend displays, a black screen appearing on login in some multi-monitor configurations, and a crash affecting guest sessions with multiple monitors.
Softstream: Video Corruption on AMD GPUs
Resolved severe visual corruption, including incorrect colors and scaling, that could occur when decoding certain video streams on systems using AMD GPUs.
Softstream: Cursor Artifacts on CPU-Only VMs
Fixed a visual artifact that appeared near the cursor when the mouse pointer size setting was changed on CPU-only virtual machines.
Softstream: Additional Client and Server Stability Fixes
Resolved several issues that could cause the Softstream client or server to unexpectedly crash during a session, including during connection setup, screen sharing, and video decoding.
Softstream: Shared Advanced Settings on Linux
Fixed an issue on the Linux client where fully-permissioned users were unable to mark Advanced Settings as "shared," even though this worked correctly on Windows.
Softstream: Session Role After Network Interruptions
Resolved an issue where a brief network interruption during a session could cause a user to be reconnected as a guest instead of their original session role. Sessions now correctly preserve your role after a brief connectivity blip.
Softnet: Case-Insensitive Login
Fixed an issue where logging in with email and password could fail if the email address was typed with different letter casing than when the account was created. Login now works correctly regardless of capitalization.
Softnet: SCIM Provisioning Reliability
Fixed several issues with SCIM-based user provisioning, including using the correct primary email address, removing an overly strict domain-matching check that could block valid users, and ensuring provisioning endpoints respond in the format expected by identity providers such as Okta. This improves reliability when provisioning users through SSO/SCIM integrations.
Softnet: Error Page Accuracy and Filtering
Fixed the error page's date column showing an incorrect label. Administrators can now also filter the error page by any column (previously only date range was supported) and hover over an entry to see full error details.
Softnet: Host CPU Capacity Accuracy
Fixed an issue where CPU capacity on the host details page could show inaccurate values, including usage reported above 100%. CPU capacity now correctly reflects actual assigned resources.
Softnet: Reassign Action Visibility
Fixed an issue where reassigning a registered standalone computer succeeded but didn't show the reassign action in the computer's details, even though it appeared in the activity log. The action now displays correctly.
Softnet: Stuck Computer Actions
Fixed an issue where computer actions like restart or shutdown could get stuck indefinitely, blocking further management of the VM. These actions now time out and are correctly marked as failed if they don't complete in a reasonable time.
Softnet: Computer Pool Activity Log Accuracy
Fixed an issue where moving a computer between computer pools could record inconsistent or incorrect information in the activity log. Pool membership changes are now logged accurately.
Softstream: Network Warning Now Reflects High Ping
Fixed an issue where the network status indicator did not show a warning during periods of significant network latency, even though other connectivity problems would trigger it. The indicator now takes ping into account, giving users a more accurate signal when connection quality has degraded.
Softstream: Error Guide Link in Launcher
Fixed a broken link in the launcher's connection error dialog that previously led to a "page not found" error instead of the relevant troubleshooting guide. The "See error guide for details" link now correctly opens the appropriate help article.
Softstream: Launcher Download Link Accuracy
Fixed an issue where the Launcher's version-mismatch dialog could link to the wrong download location. The download link now correctly points to the current active version, so users can get the right installer directly from the dialog.
Softstream: Update Installation Reliability
Resolved an issue where a race condition could occasionally prevent the installer from launching during a client update, leaving the machine on the previous version until it was manually restarted. Updates now complete reliably without requiring a restart to proceed.
