Error Code 01 - TLSHandshakeFailed

Overview

 Error Code 01 (TLSHandshakeFailed) indicates that the Softdrive client was able to initiate a connection to the remote computer, but the TLS handshake required to secure the connection failed. 

 This means basic network connectivity exists, but the encryption negotiation between the client and Softdrive services could not be completed. 

 This error is most commonly caused by network security mechanisms inspecting, blocking, or interfering with encrypted TLS traffic.

  • Softdrive Cloud Desktops

Symptoms

  • Connection fails when launching a Softdrive computer
  • TLS or secure connection error message appears
  • Session cannot be established despite working internet connection

Possible Causes

  • SSL inspection or TLS decryption enabled on firewalls or security gateways
  • Network security software (firewalls, proxies, EDR, VPNs) interfering with TLS traffic
  • Corporate or restricted networks enforcing strict encryption policies
  • Outbound TLS traffic being filtered or modified

 This issue is not typically caused by the Softdrive client or the virtual machine itself. 

Resolution

  1.  Contact your network administrator 
    • If you are on a corporate or managed network, inform your network/security team
    • Request that SSL/TLS inspection be disabled or bypassed for Softdrive traffic
  2.  Disable SSL inspection (for testing) 
    • Temporarily disable SSL/TLS inspection or proxying
    • Retry the connection
  3.  Test using a different network 
    • Use a home network or mobile hotspot
    • If it works, the issue is confirmed to be network-related
  4.  Restart devices 
    • Restart your local machine
    • Restart the Softdrive Cloud PC if accessible
  5.  Use Softdrive Troubleshoot 
    • If the issue started recently, run the Troubleshoot option from the Softdrive dashboard

Validation / Expected Result

  • The connection completes successfully
  • The Softdrive session launches normally
  • No TLS-related errors are displayed

Troubleshooting Notes

  • This error almost always indicates network-level interference
  • Testing on a different network is the fastest way to confirm the root cause
  • If the issue appears suddenly, check for recent firewall or security policy changes

  • Date and time of occurrence
  • Network type (home, corporate, VPN, hotspot)
