Unable to Print Using Tabloid or Other Paper Sizes in Softdrive

Overview

Some users may not be able to select or print using certain paper sizes, such as Tabloid, from inside the Softdrive virtual machine.

This can happen when the printer settings or available paper sizes are not fully detected inside the Softdrive session. As a workaround, the user can first select the desired paper size in the printer preferences on the local machine, then return to the Softdrive virtual machine and print using that same size.

Applies To

  • Printing from a Softdrive session
  • Printers using custom or larger paper sizes, such as Tabloid

Prerequisites

  • The printer must be available and working on the local machine.
  • The user must be connected to the Softdrive virtual machine.
  • The desired paper size must be supported by the local printer.

Procedure

  1. On the local machine, open the printer settings.
  2. Open printer preferences from the printer you want to use.
  3. Select the desired paper size, such as Tabloid.
  4. Apply or save the printer settings.
  5. Go back to the Softdrive virtual machine.
  6. Open the document you want to print inside the Softdrive session.
  7. Open the print dialog.
  8. Select the same printer and desired paper size.
  9. Print the document.

Expected Result

After selecting the desired paper size on the local machine first, the Softdrive virtual machine should be able to print using that size.

For example, if the user needs to print using Tabloid, they should first select Tabloid in the printer settings on the local machine, then return to the Softdrive session and print the document using the same paper size.

Troubleshooting

If the desired paper size is still not available or the document does not print correctly, try the following:

  • Confirm that the paper size is available on the local machine.
  • Confirm that the printer supports the selected paper size.
  • Close and reopen the application inside the Softdrive virtual machine.
  • Disconnect and reconnect to the Softdrive session.
  • Restart the local printer or printer software if needed.
  • Try printing a test document from the local machine using the same paper size.

If the issue continues, please contact Softdrive Support at support@softdrive.co and include the following details:

  • Printer name and model
  • Paper size the user is trying to print
  • Application being used to print
  • Whether the paper size works from the local machine
  • Screenshot of the print settings inside the Softdrive virtual machine
