Overview
Error Code 12 (TCPDisconnection) indicates that the TCP component of the Softdrive connection was closed unexpectedly after the session was successfully established.
This means the connection started correctly, but the underlying TCP session was terminated before it could continue.
In many cases, this is a temporary condition and reconnecting immediately resolves the issue.
Applies To
- Softdrive Virtual Machines
- Softstream Client
- Users experiencing unexpected disconnections
Symptoms
- Session disconnects unexpectedly after connecting
- Error Code 12 (TCPDisconnection) appears
- Session may reconnect successfully after retry
Possible Causes
- Temporary network interruption
- TCP reset (RST) triggered by firewall or security policy
- Network devices closing idle or long-lived TCP connections
- VPNs or security gateways interfering with TCP sessions
This issue is typically related to network behavior or security controls, not the Softdrive client or virtual machine.
Resolution
- Retry the connection — in most cases, reconnecting immediately restores the session
- If the issue happens frequently, review network policies that may terminate TCP sessions
- If using a corporate network, contact your network administrator to review firewall or gateway behavior
Validation / Expected Result
The Softdrive session connects successfully and remains stable without unexpected TCP disconnections.
Troubleshooting Notes
- Test on a different network (e.g., hotspot) to rule out local network issues
- Check if disconnects occur intermittently or consistently
- VPN usage may increase the likelihood of TCP interruptions
- Firewall or IDS/IPS systems commonly trigger TCP resets
Escalation
If the issue persists, contact Softdrive Support and include the following:
- Error code: Error Code 12 – TCPDisconnection
- Date and time of occurrence
- Network type (home, corporate, VPN, hotspot)
- Screenshot of the error message
- Description of any network issues observed
