How to Allow Softdrive Through Windows Firewall

Overview

This guide explains how to configure Windows Firewall on your local computer to allow proper communication between the Softdrive client and the Softdrive platform.

Normally, the Softdrive installer automatically creates the required firewall rule. However, if the rule was not created successfully, you can configure it manually using the steps below.

The application:

SoftdriveClient.exe

must be allowed through Windows Firewall to ensure stable connectivity and session communication.

Applies To

  • Softdrive Client
  • Windows 10 / Windows 11
  • Users experiencing firewall-related connectivity issues

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the local computer
  • Softdrive Client installed
  • Windows Defender Firewall enabled

Procedure

1. Open Windows Defender Firewall

  • Press:
    Windows Key + S
  • Search for:
    Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security
  • Click Open

2. Create a New Inbound Rule

  • Select Inbound Rules from the left panel
  • Under Actions, click:
    New Rule...

3. Select Rule Type

  • In the New Inbound Rule Wizard, select:
    Program
  • Click Next

4. Select the SoftdriveClient.exe Path

  • Select:
    This program path
  • Click Browseand navigate to:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Programs\softdrive-launcher\resources\bin\softdriveclient.exe
  • Click Next

5. Allow the Connection

  • Select:
    Allow the connection
  • Click Next

6. Select Firewall Profiles

Choose the profiles where the rule should apply:

  • Domain – Organization-managed networks
  • Private – Trusted home or office networks
  • Public – Public or untrusted networks

Click Next after selecting the desired profiles.


7. Name the Rule

  • Enter a descriptive rule name, for example:
    SoftdriveClient – Allow Port
  • Optionally add a description
  • Click Finish

Expected Result

The Softdrive client is successfully allowed through Windows Firewall and can communicate properly with the Softdrive platform.

Troubleshooting

  • Verify the selected executable path is correct
  • Ensure the firewall rule is enabled after creation
  • Restart the Softdrive client after modifying firewall settings
  • Check third-party antivirus or EDR software that may override Windows Firewall rules
