Fix Microsoft Teams Audio Issues in Softdrive

Overview

Some users may experience issues where audio is not heard in Microsoft Teams while using Softdrive, even though the microphone appears to function correctly.

In some cases, this behavior may be caused by an application crash, audio device conflict, or temporary session instability.

Applies To

  • Microsoft Teams in Softdrive
  • Softdrive Virtual Machines
  • Users experiencing audio playback issues

Prerequisites

  • Active Softdrive session
  • Microsoft Teams installed and running
  • Access to local audio devices and Windows sound settings

Procedure

  1. Determine Whether Audio Works Intermittently
    • Check whether audio works sometimes
    • Identify when audio last worked successfully
  2. Check Connection Status
    • Verify whether the message:
      Attempting to reconnect, please wait...
      appears during the session
    • Check whether the session disconnects directly back to the launcher
  3. Test Different Audio Devices
    • Test with different audio devices if available
    • Prefer a USB-connected headset or speaker instead of a 3.5mm audio jack
    • If possible, test the same device on another computer
  4. USB audio devices are handled independently from onboard sound hardware and may behave more reliably in virtual environments.

  5. Check Other Applications
    • Verify whether audio works in other applications such as YouTube
    • Determine whether the issue is isolated to Teams or affects the entire session
  6. Disable Other Audio Devices (Temporary Test)
    • Right-click the audio icon in the Windows taskbar
    • Select Sounds
    • Disable unused devices under:
      • Playback
      • Recording
    • Reconnect to Softdrive and test audio again
    • Record which devices were disabled so they can be restored later

Expected Result

Audio playback in Microsoft Teams works normally within the Softdrive session and users can hear meeting audio successfully.

Troubleshooting

  • Restart Microsoft Teams after changing audio devices
  • Reconnect to the Softdrive session after modifying sound settings
  • Ensure the correct playback device is selected inside Teams
  • Verify local machine audio works outside of Softdrive
  • If the issue persists, contact support@softdrive.co
