Overview
If you receive the message:
“SoftDrive Client version is outdated. Please restart SoftDrive to automatically update to the latest version.”
This indicates that the local Softdrive client did not update successfully and requires a restart or reinstall.

- Users unable to update the Softdrive application automatically
Prerequisites
- Administrator access to the local computer
- Internet access to download the latest Softdrive installer
- Permission to uninstall and reinstall applications
Procedure
- Terminate Softdrive via Task Manager
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Locate SoftDrive in the running processes list
- Right-click and select End Task
- Relaunch SoftDrive and verify whether the issue is resolved
- Uninstall and Reinstall SoftDrive
- Ensure SoftDrive is fully closed before uninstalling
- Open:
Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a Program - Select SoftDrive and uninstall it
- Download the latest version from:
https://www.softdrive.co/download - Install the latest version and launch the application again
Expected Result
The Softdrive client updates successfully and launches without showing the outdated version message.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure all Softdrive processes are fully closed before reinstalling
- Restart the computer after uninstalling if installation issues persist
- Verify internet access when downloading the installer
- Temporarily disable antivirus or EDR software if installation is blocked
